delivers <natsal> to snatch away, defend, without fail, preserve, recover, rescue, save…
to deliver: to free from harm and evil. WordWeb
What did David need to be delivered from? …the snare of the trapper, and from the deadly pestilence. Something that would catch him unaware, entrapment, entanglement.
A trapper’s snare is meant to catch something unaware. It is deceptively placed to catch its prey. Usually it is hidden so that it is unnoticed until it has its victim caught.
The trapper’s snare is real, but God is real and He is more powerful.
“God's help is most ready for us, whether Satan assails us secretly which he calls a snare, or openly which is here meant by the pestilence.” Geneva Bible Notes
From the pestilence, which like a fowler's snare takes men suddenly and unexpectedly. John Wesley’s Notes on the Old and New Testaments
Ps 124:7 Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; the snare is broken and we have escaped.
So perhaps you don’t have memories about the demise of a lemon cake or have not lived in a place where you question the safety of your family, however, there are traps we can fall into, and pitfalls that can cause harm all around us. There are situations that beg us to lose hope. Temptations of the world beckon us to join what is ‘fun’. Our focus can be easily misdirected. We are weak. God is strong and will protect His children! Thank you Lord! Even from what we cannot see as problems. Often, He does this in what seems to us the last moment, JITNOT! But, He has known all along where our path is going, and He is ready at exactly the right moment to deliver us from harm, and to defend us. Perhaps, we will go through difficulties that seem extended, we may end up with scars but there is always salvage. We will never be completely ruined, destroyed, lost or harmed beyond help if we Trust, if we are His children. God has saved us from destruction!
Do we trust He will deliver on His promises? Absolutely!
Ps 36:6-9 Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God; Thy judgments are like a great deep. O LORD, Thou preservest man and beast. How precious is Thy lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Thy house; And Thou dost give them to drink of the river of Thy delights. For with Thee is the fountain of life; In Thy light we see light.
Job 5:18-27 "For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal. "From six troubles He will deliver you, even in seven evil will not touch you. "In famine He will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword. "You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither will you be afraid of violence when it comes. "You will laugh at violence and famine, neither will you be afraid of wild beasts. "For you will be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field will be at peace with you. "And you will know that your tent is secure, for you will visit your abode and fear no loss. "You will know also that your descendants will be many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth. "You will come to the grave in full vigor, like the stacking of grain in its season. "Behold this, we have investigated it, thus it is; hear it, and know for yourself."
God is always ready to help His children, He is faithful. “…Jesus Christ hath overcome the world to prevent us from being overcome by it.” Bp. Horne.
“Ver. 3. Surely he shall deliver thee from the noisome pestilence. Lord Craven lived in London when that sad calamity, the plague, raged. His house was in that part of the town called Craven Buildings. On the plague growing epidemic, his Lordship, to avoid the danger, resolved to go to his seat in the country. His coach and six were accordingly at the door, his baggage put up, and all things in readiness for the journey. As he was walking through his hall with his hat on, his cane under his arm, and putting on his gloves, in order to step into his carriage, he overheard his [servant], who served him as postillion, saying to another servant. "I suppose, by my Lord's quitting London to avoid the plague, that his God lives in the country, and not in town." The poor [servant] said this in the simplicity of his heart, as really believing a plurality of gods. The speech, however, struck Lord Craven very sensibly, and made him pause. "My God," thought he, "lives everywhere, and can preserve me in town as well as in the country. I will even stay where I am. The ignorance of that [servant] has just now preached to me a very useful sermon. Lord, pardon this unbelief, and that distrust of thy providence, which made me think of running from thy hand." He immediately ordered his horses to be taken from the coach, and the baggage to be taken in. He continued in London, was remarkably useful among his sick neighbours, and never caught the infection.” Treasury of David, Whitecross's Anecdotes.
Consider. We are unaware of every danger that may seek to engulf us. But God knows. We may feel that He isn’t listening or has left us on our own, but He hasn’t, He won’t. Trust that God will deliver you from all things that are meant for harm, that are meant to snatch you away from Him. In His time.
